Have you just got married or changed your name?

Did you know that you must also update your name with the Australian Taxation Office.  There are few different ways that this can be done.  The quickest and easiest way is by logging into your myGov account.  Before logging in, make sure you have an Australian identity document such as:

  • Drivers Licence
  • Birth Certificate
  • Marriage Certificate
  • Change of Name Certificate
  • Passport; or
  • Citizenship Certificate

If you are updating your name via your myGov account, select the Australian Taxation Office under your linked services.  Select “My Profile”, then under personal details select either:

  • Update name and title; or
  • Update title only to just change your title

If you don’t have a myGov account, the Australian Taxation Office will require you to update your name by completing their “Change of details for individuals” form.  Please note you will still be required to send a certified copy of one of the above documents.

If you are reverting to a previously name, the Australian Taxation Office will not require a copy of an identity document.
